Change ring tone in galaxy tab. How to set any mp3 as your ringtone

I was checking weather there is a way to set the mp3 of your choice as your ringtone or notification tone. For example, the calender notifications in galaxy tab with android 2.2 has only short ring tones. I wanted to set one of my mp3 songs as notification ringtone.

To do this, go to the my files app and browse to the song / tone of your choice. Using the menu options you can select copy. On the top of the screen you will see an arrow which will take you up in the folder hierarchy. Continue till you reach the root. Then browse to media»audio»notifications. Again use the options to paste it in the notification folder.

You are all set. Now go to any calender event and go to settings where you can change the ringtone. If you followed all the instructions above, then you will find the song you just copied in the ringtone list.

is it any better than the blogger app

Insttead of using the blogger app, today I went to www.blogger.com to blog. the best thing for me was that speech was enabled in this website. That means now I can dictate what ever I want to blog. let me tell you if you have a accent problem, then the system will take some time to get used to what you what you are saying. but after some time you will be able to effortlessly talk and blog. Dictation is the fastest way to input text. For example this whole blog has been written just by talking into the phone. I wish I had a better accent.

Free meditation videos

Somehow I am getting more and more interested in meditation recently. So I searched everywere for good resourses. Here are some good sourses where you can find meditation resourses.

1. Youtube.
There are tons of meditation videos in youtube. There are some great ones and lots of crappy ones. Devote enough time to search and you will find a lot of good ones.

2. Your local library.
Your local library will not only have books but also quality videos and dvds. If you visit some of the library websites you will be able to search their catelog and find whether any dvds about meditation is present in their collection.

3. Netflix.
If you have netflix membership, then you can queue meditation videos at your liking or get them send the dvd to your address.

4. Television channels
Some morning shows dedicate 15 to 20 mins of their morning air time to yoga, meditation and other relaxation exercise.

Check pandora for meditation music or relaxation music to make your experience more special.

Blogger android app in samsung galaxy tab

For the past one week or so I have been writing all my blog posts from my samsung galaxy tab. I have a few complaints regarding the app. First thing is that whenever I try to publish my posts after I write up the content, it fails to publish the first time. But if you give it a second click, it will publish instantly. But for me there is one thing I hate the most. The fastest way to input content in your galaxy tab is through voice input. Even with my accent problem, it recognize 80% of what I say. But the blogger input always append new voice input to the begining of the input field. It should have appended new voice input text to the end of the existing text. That for me is a bug. I would love to dictate my blog posts effortlessly but I guess the app creators will correct that bug as soon as possible.

Got CT tax refund in just 4 days

I was amazed to see my CT tax refund credited to my account in just 4 days. It came before the federal returns and my CAreturns( I had for two states). I filed online through www.taxactonline.com.

If you havent done your filing online ever, it is quie easy. You have to spend a few hours. Thats all. But check turbotax.com also before you file. Calculate refund from each and file with the one which you feel is the best.

Pandora android app in galaxy tab is awesome

I am a big fan of pandora radio stations. so one of the first app I installed after getting my galaxy tab was pandora app for android. I have to say that it exceeded my expectations.

One of the first stations which I created in pandora was an A R Rahman station. The experience was awesome. It played even some of the latest songs. The sound clarity exceeded expectations.

The second station I created was Yanni's. I love his instrumental music. I also created a meditation channel which plays only soft natural sounds which is good to meditate. Recently I am into instrumental and so I added another channel called flute and harp.

I love playing songs from pandora because you don't know what song will play next.

Thinking space review. Best mind mapping tool for android.

Today I downloaded a mind maping app called thinking space from the android market place. Thinking space is by far the best productivity android app I have downloaded. It is a free android app which lets you express or your ideas in perfect order.

I used this app to structure an idea which was looming in my mind for quite some time now. I know what I had to do to execute the idea but it was all in bits and pieces. Thinking space helped me compile all my ideas and represent it in a tree structure / mind map. It is really powerful. The vague idea which was there in my mind has now matirialized in to clearly structured action items. Now all I have to do is execute those action items one by one.

I can already think of a couple of other uses for the thinking space app like self improvement and creating excellent study matirials and business documents. If you are an android mobile or android tablet user, then you should also try it out.

Some of the features which I especially liked include

1. Use of gestures to perform actions like build, cut, copy, paste etc
2. We can post the finished product to evernot, email, save it as file or upload to cloud
3. The UI is quite intuitive.
4. Ease of use.

Live wallpaper for galaxy tab.

Today I was experimenting with new live wallpapers for my new galaxy tab. The first question which I had is how do I set the wallpaper. I couldn't find it in the settings app under display. So I figured it should be some where in the desktop itself. Just press the desktop for a few seconds and a menu pops up from wher you cn selec wallpapers.

There is an option for a static wallpaper and another option for a live wallpaper. The verizon version of the galaxy tab comes with four pre installed live wallpapers. I was interested in one of them but not much. So I went to the app store online and checked whether there are any new live wallpapers. I found a few and ended up installing one. The matrix live wallpaper.

Just keep in mind that the live wallpaper will drain your battery juice a bit more than usual. Because of this reason I was a bit reluctant to install it. But then I thought, what the hell and went with the installation. It looks good but I am sure I will switch to another live wall paper.

I just got mysef a galaxy tab

I just got myself a galaxy tab. Its been 3 days since I got it and I am like a little boy with a brand new toy in his hand.

Let me first of all say that I love the galaxy tab. Having said that the tab is not perfect. The thing I hate the most is the place were they put the power button. Even though they had more than enough space on the top they decided to place the power button on the side just near the volume rocker.

The second thing I dont like is that it doesnt have a stand alone GPS. What it has is something called A-GPS. If you don't have maps pre loaded then the navigation wont work where ther is no data connectivity. It will still pinpoint your current location without data connection but navigation wont work.

Barring these two cons my experience with the galaxy tab have been quite good.  I mainly use it as an entertinement / communication / productivity tool. I am actually posting this crom my galaxy tab. I think I just have to get some getting used to with the tab especially witb the typing, but I have already made some Improvement.

I dont see much problem with my tab's battery life. I am easily getting 7 hours of continious battery. You can easily extend the battery life by reducing the screen brightness and turning off the GPS when you are not using it.

One thing I want to tell anyone who is going to buy the tab. Make sure you know what you are going to do with it. It is undoubtedly a great buy.
